The Spirit of Rejection | Where Does Your Identity Lie?

Everyone holds their identity in something, whether consciously or unconsciously. Sometimes we find our identity in our friends, family, success, approval, trauma, money, or fame. The thing is when we don't find our identity in God, it leaves us open to the spirit of rejection.

Before we dive deeper into this demonology, let's understand what demons are and their motives. Without going into too much theology, demons are agents of the kingdom of darkness. The kingdom of darkness is everything opposite of who God is. It is devoid of joy, prosperity, healing, comfort, and anything good. The Bible says that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). With this basic understanding, it is clear to note that demons are not our friends. Although they feel comfortable and satisfy our flesh, they do not have our best interest at heart (quite the opposite!).

Now back to the spirit of rejection. Just as with God's kingdom, aka the kingdom of light, Satan's kingdom operates similarly. There are different spirits with different ranks to fulfill different functions. The spirit of rejection is no different. This spirit's primary purpose is to attack the identity of an individual. This spirit is very versatile and works very well with other spirits, such as poverty, lust, idolatry, success, comparison, worthlessness, and pride.

Here are some common symptoms of this spirit:

  • self-sabotage
  • serial dating
  • promiscuity
  • low self-esteem
  • low worth
  • feeling inadequate
  • abnormal dependency on others
  • poverty
  • an orphan mentality
  • devalue of one's work
  • chasing success
  • comparison
  • inability to ask for help
  • abuse
  • depression
  • anxiety

Although by no means an extensive list, those are some common characteristics that one is suffering from the spirit of rejection.

If you are someone suffering from a spirit of rejection, I encourage you to seek the face of God for deliverance. I'm here to tell you that only God can give you an identity, not the things of this world. You are not a mistake, and you still have a purpose. God can redeem even the most broken of people if you invite Him in.~

Hi, Jumoke! This is a Word! Wow…. The Lord just showed me that ultimately the root cause of my depression, anxiety, comparing myself to others, orphan mentality, dependency on others, etc is the spirit of rejection. My, oh my… Praise the Lord. So grateful for you sister. Also, so encouraged to see that you’re building your brand and building businesses through gifts the Lord has given you. You rock on, sista! I’m rooting for you!
